The taco seasoning you buy in the pouches at the grocery store can be high in salt and low in flavor. Make a batch of this seasoning and keep it in your freezer. You can use it for tacos, bean burgers, beans and rice, and whatever else you want to give Mexican flavor. It is terrific on our Mushroom Beef Tacos and Fish Tacos. It calls for paprika, and the type you use is up to you; smoked, hot, or regular.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup chili powder
- 3 tablespoons paprika (you may want to use ½ smoked and ½ hot)
- 3 tablespoons ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon Mexican oregano (regular oregano will work as well)
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne (more if you want it really hot)
Directions
- Combine all ingredients and store in a plastic container.

So very glad to have this recipe. I have always bought the Taco Seasoning Commercial product to use in several favorite dishes. This tastes so much better and is salt free. I don’t keep mine in the freezer because it doesn’t last that long. But I have decided I am going to make a double batch and put one in the freezer, because when I am out I forget to make it until I need it.
